Basic/interesting note/facts/info./data on my home: Casa de Harlan, in Las Colonias de La Suiza de Turrialba, Cartago Provincia, Costa Rica...

This beautiful little home and the 2000 sq. meters of surrounding land is owned by me. . . but I have decided to put it in my two older children's names . . .(if I do not sell it and give the $$ to them). . ..

It is located in the very stable country of Costa Rica. If you are living in Costa Rica and looking for a more tranquil lifestyle in the country. . . or looking to move to a breathtaking very affordable paradise. . . this is it! . . ..or if you simply want a vacation get-away? Wow! The local sports include hiking, horseback riding, trout fishing, skydiving, water rafting, mountain biking, and even bird watching! ...

The hotel "RANCHO NATURALISTA" is a couple miles up the road--(you pay $125/night there)--and their claim to fame is: BIRD WATCHING -- we got most of the same birds in my back or front yards!!!

The town of "La Suiza de Turrialba de Costa Rica" with restaurants, two super markets, three hardware stores, a National Bank, churches, a high school, Medical Clinic, and other shopping, offers the best of both "city and country living" . . . and is about 10 kms. (six miles) from the City of TURRIALBA, another larger "town" (or small city ?) . . . with its' several banks, shopping, many supermarkets, taxis, 2 Bus Stations, (a "Walmart" owned "MAXI BODEGA"), churches, Universities, High Schools, a regional HOSPITAL and Court House, and its people are very friendly.

The city/town of Turrialba is located 1½ hour from the capital of Costa Rica. . . and 15 minutes from the smaller town of La Suiza. . . and then you are just a couple minutes from my home. . ."Casa de Harlan" in the little community of "Las Colonias de La Suiza". . . half way between "La Selva" and "Las Nubes" . . . at 845 meters above sea level, is PURA VIDA!

Again, the "City of Turrialba" is only 64 km from San Jose... south and east. . . (about 40 miles, or about an 1½ hrs. by bus), the Capital and the "Central Valley"... of Costa Rica". . . (or about an hour from the City of Cartago going past or through the scenic towns of "Paradise", Cervantes, and the sugar production in "Juan Vinas"), and going in the other direction, you are about 90 minutes from the east coast Port City of Limon, (and the beaches on the Caribbean Sea with sun & surf, Real Surfing, great diving and snorkeling, and the great cuisine of the English and "PATUA"-speaking locals of the Atlantic Coast . . ..

Early in the morning, at Casa De Harlan, you can see the yellow tailed oropedulas, hear wild turkeys, or watch toucans flying across the sky and within a five minute walk you have a breathtaking view of the Volcano Turrialba. Or. . . You can get up early and in a couple hours find yourself waling on the beautiful beaches of the Caribbean Coast. . . or Shopping/watching a 3-D Movie at one of the 5 MALLS in San Jose . . . or Flying out of the San Jose Airport arriving in Miami. . . in a few hours. . .. . . Both San Jose, and Atlantic/Caribbean Coasts are less than two hours in Bus or car. . .

Also, in walking distance from Casa de Harlan . . .150 yards. . . from my home, you have a 2 small food stores, a church and school, and If you want some exercise you can walk up the road and enjoy a game of soccer on the local Football Field. . .. The closest "bar" . . .to have a drink or socialize with the locals. . . in el Centro de Amigos, located down the hill, in the little neighboring community of "La Selva" (the "Jungle"). . . on the main paved road to La Suiza . . . less than one mile from Las Colonias. . .

The cabin/home was purchased by the current owner (glenhsmith) in 1991, and he rebuilt it in 1992 . . . and then made/extended/added a Larger Living room, with raised open wood ceilings, and 7 feet tall built in Native Wood Bookcases. . . and built the "master bathroom" (with a Bath Tub!) . . . these additions were added a couple years later in 1994. . .

Glen and/or his renters restored much of the interior (inside and out) . . . with new paint and varnished the French windows and doors. . . a couple years ago. . . and they need it again!

"Casa de Harlan" consists of a small "master bedroom" (with its own --the only bathroom in the house). . . and an additional guest room, thus "2 bathrooms" (one is the "original". . . and now you have to "go out the back door" to get to it and to use it. . . the Guest Bedroom has the "fixtures" (previstos) to put in another bathroom, if you so desire. . . The kitchen w/ breakfast bar, Dining room and the living room have Terrazo or Ceramic Floors, and There is a wash room/laundry/Utility Room. . . that used to be the old kitchen. In the mornings, or anytime, you may sit on "La terrazza". . . out the French doors or sit in a rocking chair on the cement "front porch" . . . so you can enjoy the mist when it comes down from "Las Nubes". . . to refresh the lush year round green land. The little stream runs right next to Casa De Harlan and sings its soothing, relaxing songs 24/7/365. . .

There is a garage for 1 and 1/2 cars with a door into the guest bedroom . . . and parking for many more cars . . . There are sometimes up to 7 or 10 cars (a few motor cycles and horses too) that drive past "Casa de Harlan" every day. . . Why? . . .the road "ends" for cars or trucks only 5o yards past my place. . .the "car bridge" over the stream washed out a few years back. . . and is seems. . . that NO one seems to care. . .a foot bridge seems to serve the locals well enough. . . and for me it is a blessing in disguise. . . since the road washed out. . . nearly 93.67% of all the traffic that used to "pass in front of my place". . . no longer does so. . . (did you know that 76.43% of all statistical figures are made up on a moment's notice by the author to make a point. . . the truth notwithstanding. . . ) You may keep farm animals from chickens, goats, rabbits, ducks, geese, dogs, cats. . . to horses . . . one neighbor has several young milk cows, another several horses, and he is the local black smith and buys and sells horses for fun and profit. . .

The property is surrounded by beautiful tropical plants and flowers, a few coffee plantations, Bamboo plants, a few sugar cane plants, and fruit trees. The original owners' son worked in "Matas de Costa Rica" a company on the road to Limon that exports flowers. . ..
